Frequently Asked Questions

THERAPY

  • Many therapists are intelligent compassionate people who mean well. One area they tend to fall short, however, is with creative struggles. The journey of any artist, be they writer, actor, singer, or painter, is meant to be challenging.

If a client whose lifelong dream is to become a famous Hollywood director tells their therapist, “every day in this industry feels like hell,” most clinicians will encourage the client to stop, take a break from directing, or even consider changing jobs. For many artists, this is the worst possible advice they can receive.

You did not choose this life. It chose you. It is what you know you are meant to be. You came to therapy not necessarily to question this path, but perhaps to better understand why you want it so badly, or how best to navigate it.

This creative truth I first learned from my colleague and mentor, Dennis Palumbo LMFT, and everyday strive to empower through my practice.

  • While the main focus of my practice is helping artists and creative professionals, there is no requirement that you have to be one to receive therapy from me. I have worked with many clients from other areas of life and so long as you feel I would be a good fit as your therapist, I am happy to connect.

  • You can schedule with me here.

  • I work out of a home office in the Los Angeles area. I am available for in-person or virtual sessions.

  • Unfortunately, I am only licensed to see therapy clients in California at this time.

  • My normal business hours are 12-6pm Tuesday-Thursday and 1-4pm Friday. Therapy services outside regular hours are available at an additional premium.

  • Fees vary depending on session length, co-pays, individual clients versus couples/families, etc. A typical therapy session through my practice costs about $175.

  • Returning clients, military service members/veterans, or students in a physical or mental health field may be eligible to receive a preferred rate. Please contact me directly for more information.

  • Please see my Psychology Today page for a complete list of insurances I am partnered with.

  • SuperBills are an alternative for when a therapist cannot take a client’s insurance. A SuperBill is a document (usually a PDF or email attachment) that a therapist sends to a client on a recurring basis.

Each SuperBill lists the therapy services that have taken place over a certain period and the client (you) can then submit the SuperBill to your insurance provider for what is commonly called, “Out-of-Network reimbursement.” Depending on their policy, your insurance may reimburse you a portion of the therapy fees you paid for directly.

PLEASE NOTE: Every insurance is different and may have specific protocol or criteria regarding SuperBill submission. Simply receiving a SuperBill from the therapist does not guarantee reimbursement from insurance.

PODCAST

  • Therapy by the Book is a podcast that explores the hearts and minds of fictional characters through a therapeutic lens.

Each episode examines a different character across media and attempts to depict what might happen if one day they were start coming to therapy. From Star Wars to The Godfather, the sky’s the limit.

How would they feel sitting on that couch? What might they say during a session? Could therapy help them in their story? These are just a few of the questions this show seeks to answer.
